MorganLeatherWorks Shell Cordovan wallet - 3 month patina check

Image
The wallet is no longer as stiff and It's hard to truly capture the patina, but when put side by side, the wallet three months ago did not have the same deep caramel color it has now. Before                        After                       It is very unfortunate I have not been able to capture the wallet when it first came in with my Fujifilm X100V. The above pictures have been taken on my phone as I wanted both pictures to come from the same source. Here's one taken with the Fujifilm as a reference for next time. I did not have it as my EDC until about one and a half month in. I went back and forth on it as I loved it at first, then thought it was too big and bulky and then loved it again after I carried it with me out of necessity (needed a lot of cash with me). No jeans. I oftentimes carried it with me in my bag, sometimes in my pocket. As a woman, however, not ma...

MorganLeatherWorks Shell Cordovan custom wallet - first look

Image
Thursday March 24th 2022. The notification said I were to receive my package today. It did not say who the sender was, but I recognized the tracking number to be from USPS. In late February, I had commissioned a custom wallet from MorganLeatherWorks. I was looking for a high quality shell cordovan wallet to celebrate some good things that have been happening in my life, yet to also take note of an important moment -- turning 30. MorganLeatherWorks MorganLeatherWorks (Jonah Morgan) is a one-man business based in San Diego, California (CA) in the US. Jonah sources the materials and does all the work himself. Everything is handmade, even the stitching. Judging from his posts on Instagram, Jonah has only started this business a bit more than half a year ago. His goal is to one day completely master the craft. What motivates me is my passion for all things leather, a love of creativity and being able to make functional art that you can carry in your pocket. Jonah Morgan from M...

Vermilyea Pelle hybrid briefcase (Wheat Twill/Milled Vachetta) - one month

Image
It wasn't until I got my first full-time job last year after graduation that I was in the market for something like a briefcase. It came down to either a Filson which a local store carried or import a briefcase from Vermilyea Pelle with absolutely no way of knowing whether it was the better choice. Obviously, I went for the latter. Vermilyea Pelle Vermilyea Pelle is run by Dustin Spencer, who has had extensive training and experience in making bags. It's a small company that started in 2008 and it's obvious they have a lot of love for the craft. Handmade from Washington, US. They have some really cool videos on their website that showcases the handmade process. Briefcase My briefcase in particular is the Wheat Twill with Milled Vachetta leather accents. The handles are English Bridle, the same leather Filson uses for their briefcases. Unlike Filson, Vermilyea Pelle has a lot of different combinations of leathers and colors that a lot of times only come by once. They...

Popov Leather Coin wallet natural - 3 months patina

Image
Just after Christmas last year (2021), this little coin wallet arrived at my doorstep and it's been in heavy use since. I have multiple products from Popov Leather, in particular their notebook covers. This is my first wallet from them. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures from when it first arrived. Though it was not much different from the natural leather they've shown on their site. It started out as a very even, almost dull leather at first. I did not actually use it much after about a week or two after I got it. Wallet The design is very simple. It's a coin wallet with a snap closure. It fits quite some coins and the snap closure closes well, no need to worry about it opening too easily. The wallet also features a quick access slot in the back, which is a great addition. Popov Leather is known for their handmade items, though from what I know, they do use die cutting machines to cut out their designs. From there, they hand stitch and put the wallet together. The st...
